Why do I have to choose?

Traditional phone lines are going away soon.

What’s happening?
By 2025, all telephone communication in the UK will be powered by a fully digital network. To achieve this, Openreach is gradually disconnecting analogue telephone lines. It is therefore vital to choose the right careline plan now.

When should I upgrade to a digital careline plan?
It is crucial to select one of our digital plans if your traditional phone line has already been disconnected and your provider has already switched you to a digital service, if you have broadband in your home, or if you don’t have a phone line at all.

If you still have an analogue telephone line
Those who still have a traditional phone line at home can still choose our analogue pendant alarm plan. Keep in mind, however, that Openreach will eventually disconnect your line and your personal alarm will stop working as a result. To keep your careline service functional, you must upgrade to a digital plan.

Now is the time to upgrade to digital
We recommend choosing one of our digital plans to ensure that your personal alarm works seamlessly no matter what type of phone line you have. Our careline service ensures peace of mind with future-proof digital equipment.

You can order a digital personal alarm online, or if you have any questions please give us a call on 0800 180 85 40.

* Based on using our Digital Pendant and Fall Alarm plans when connected using an ethernet cable.

“All that Dr Hilary stated about Telecare24 was true. I ordered my package and paid an annual fee, which I felt was competitive. The package and my free key safe arrived within 24 hours, thank you. I haven't needed the service as yet but I have tried pressing my wrist fall sensor and also pressing the base unit, on both I received a response extremely quickly, in fact within seconds. Personal Alarms FAQs.

Answers to some of the commonly asked questions about personal alarms.

A personal alarm is a small device that allows you to call for emergency help at the press of a button. They can typically be worn either around your wrist like a watch or on a lanyard that you wear around your neck.

Please note. The wearable fall sensor you get with our Fall Alarm plan is wrist-worn only.

At Telecare24, we want to ensure you are as safe as possible, so our fall sensors are wrist-worn only. A wrist-worn fall detector is more accurate and accessible than a neck-worn fall detector in an emergency.

Personal alarms are great for the elderly as well as anyone else at risk of falling or prone to accidents at home. With our personal alarm service, we at Telecare24 are helping thousands of people throughout the UK feel reassured and independent in their own homes.

Personal alarms can truly be lifesavers. If you start to feel unwell or have an accident, you can immediately reach out for help by pressing the button on your personal alarm. A telecare service representative will be available to assist you immediately to get you the help you need and back to safety.

Our personal alarms for the elderly are designed to provide quick support in the case of an emergency.

Personal alarms are simple yet effective devices that can save lives. They typically have a button that, when pressed, sends a wireless signal to a matching base unit in the vicinity.

The base unit that comes bundled with your personal alarm acts as a phone and places a call to an emergency contact. With the built-in speakerphone, you then speak to the person on the other end to get the help that you need.

The best personal alarm or careline service providers will program the device for you before it’s dispatched, so that it’s ready to use right out of the box.

Before purchasing a personal alarm for the elderly, we recommend you read our complete guide to careline alarm services.

This guide will help you better understand what personal alarms are and how they are used in conjunction with a careline service to provide peace of mind. You’ll also learn who can benefit from careline services and how personal alarms work.

You could save 20% through VAT exemption on a Telecare24 plan if you’re chronically sick or disabled. 95% of our customers don’t pay VAT when signing up for a Telecare24 careline service plan. For more details, you may read the article VAT Exemption and Personal Alarms.

It’s simple. To avoid paying VAT when you order from us, simply choose “I am exempt from paying VAT” at the checkout, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Yes, the pendant alarm, fall sensor, and GO! GPS alarms are IP67 water resistant and can be dropped into a body of water up to a metre deep for as long as half an hour. So, you can comfortably wear your personal alarm whenever you take a bath or shower.

You can typically wear a personal health alarm on your wrist or around your neck as a pendant.

When activated, personal alarm systems for the elderly send signals to Telecare24 for quick support in an emergency – this is the careline service at work.

Our case studies and customer experiences have proven that Telecare24 personal alarms for the elderly are very effective. Many of our personal alarm users expressed confidence and reassurance they experience by always having their alarm on.

Our personal alarms have allowed thousands of elderly people throughout the UK to be able to live alone or independently. We are proud to have been able to help tons of our customers get emergency assistance each time they have reached out with their personal alarm.

  • If you order one of our digital plans, the simple answer is no.
  • Our digital plans are unaffected by the digital switchover as they use SIM technology and not the landline telephone network.

Our analogue pendant alarm plan requires you to have a working landline telephone in the property.

Please note, if you already have an analogue personal alarm then you will need to upgrade your personal alarm when your analogue landline is switched off.

If you’re not sure about this, give us a call or learn more about the digital switchover.

In the event of a power cut, the base unit is features a backup battery that will last up to 48 hours dependent on use, ensuring your careline service remains intact while your mains power is restored. Keep in mind that if the power to the base unit has run out, the wearable alarm will not do anything when activated.

GO! GPS alarm plan customers should simply remember to keep the device charged.

Our personal alarm equipment is easy to install and it come with simple instructions in the box.

  • If you have one of our digital personal alarms, all you need to do is plug the base unit into a mains power socket.
  • If you have an analogue personal alarm, then you also need to connect your telephone line into the back of the base unit. Be sure to follow the instructions that come in the box.
  • The GO! GPS alarm equipment just needs to be charged using the charging cables that we provide.

Please note, when your analogue landline service is switched off, you will need to upgrade your personal alarm to a digital one.

We’ve made sure that your equipment is really simple to set up, but we are always happy to help if you need us to – just give us a call.

On our pendant and fall plans, your alarm will work up to 200 metres from the base unit. That’s comfortably enough for most homes and gardens.

Please note, these distances can be affected by things like the thickness of the walls in your home, and other factors.

Our GO! GPS alarm works anywhere in the UK where there is a mobile network signal available. It uses built-in GPS technology that lets our team know where you are, making it ideal for somebody who goes out and about most of the time.

You rent the equipment from us for the duration of your service. Your equipment must be returned to us at the end of your service agreement.

Legacy customers of our Buddi plan can keep their equipment when their service ends.

To raise the alert, just press the emergency call button that is located on your pendant, fall sensor, or GO! device.

Pendant alarm and fall alarm customers can also press the emergency call button on the base unit.

GPS alarm customers can press the buttons on the device.

If you have a fall alarm or a GPS alarm, your device can automatically detect when you have fallen and raise the alert for you, even if you can’t.

Most personal alarms can be worn around the wrist, like a watch, or around the neck on a lanyard.

Other devices may be either neck-worn or wrist-worn only and this varies by product.

Important notice: If you have a pacemaker, Telecare24’s GO! GPS Alarm must not be worn around your neck and must be kept at least 25 cm away from your pacemaker at all times.

The equipment you get with all of our digital personal alarm plans use advanced mobile technology (also known as GSM) to communicate with our careline team.

In order to ensure the best possible service, these personal alarm devices come fitted with a SIM card that connects to the strongest signal of any mobile network that is available in your area – right across the UK.

If you are unsure which personal alarm plan is the most suitable for you, give us a call and we’ll help you find the plan that’s right for you.

Please note that the mobile network coverage in your area and the strength of the signal that you are able to receive inside your home are elements that are outside of our control.

To check the strength of the mobile network signals in your area, use this Mobile Coverage Checker.

Our analogue personal alarm plans work using the landline telephone service in your home.

We’ve got a great video to show you – click here.

When you activate your personal alarm, our friendly team will begin speaking to you in a matter of seconds.

On our pendant and fall alarm plans, we’ll speak to you via the loudspeaker and microphone that are built into the base unit.

On the GO! GPS plan, we’ll speak to you through the loudspeaker and microphone built into the portable GO! device that you carry around with you.

Our pendant alarm plan and fall alarm plan devices do not have a built-in microphone. We’ll speak to you through the loudspeaker and microphone on the base unit.

In the event that we cannot reach you via the base unit, we will call your landline to ensure everything is okay. If there is no response on the landline, we will call your emergency contacts. In case we cannot reach them, we will contact the appropriate emergency responders in your area.
